The State of AI Visibility 2026
Your buyers now ask AI what to buy. So we asked it too. We put the questions real buyers ask to ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini for 28 well-known SaaS and DTC brands and recorded how often each brand actually showed up. The average was 59.9%. Most brands are missing from roughly four in ten of the answers that decide their sales.
Even household-name brands are missing from the answer
Every brand in this study is well funded and widely known. You would expect them to own the AI answers in their own category. They do not. The average brand appeared in just 59.9% of the buyer-intent answers we tested, and 5 of 28 showed up in fewer than half. Only 3 cleared 75%. Being famous with humans does not make you visible to the models, because the models answer from what the open web says about you in a structured, citable way, not from your brand recognition.
Gemini is far stingier than ChatGPT or Claude
The engines do not agree. Across the same 28 brands, Claude mentioned the brand in 67% of answers and ChatGPT in 64%, but Gemini in only 49.1%, about 16 points lower. If a brand is invisible on one engine, it is usually Gemini. Measuring a single engine, or trusting one you happen to use, will overstate how visible you really are.
Average visibility by engine
Share of buyer questions where the brand was mentioned or cited, averaged across 28 brands.
The models have favorites they reach for again and again
A handful of names came up as the recommended option across many different brands' categories, not just their own. These are the incumbents the models default to:
- Notion, recommended across 5 of the categories we tested
- Asana, recommended across 5 of the categories we tested
- HubSpot, recommended across 4 of the categories we tested
- ClickUp, recommended across 4 of the categories we tested
- Google Workspace, recommended across 2 of the categories we tested
- Wix, recommended across 2 of the categories we tested
That is the compounding advantage of AI visibility: once a brand becomes the model's default answer, it gets recommended even outside its lane, and everyone else has to earn their way back into the answer.

How we measured this
For each brand we crawled its own site to build a profile, generated the buyer-intent questions a real prospect would ask, put those questions to ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini with web access on, and scored whether the brand was mentioned or cited in each answer. Visibility is the share of answered questions where the brand appeared. The study ran on July 10, 2026 across 28 brands; 2 more were audited but blocked our crawler and were excluded. Answer engines change over time, so treat these as a dated snapshot. Full method is on the Spawned Research page.
