Growing on X as a Solo Builder

8 min readMarch 18, 2026By Spawned Team

What to post, when to post, and how to turn followers into users. No threads-about-threads advice.

Why X Works for Solo Builders

X (formerly Twitter) is where tech-savvy early adopters hang out. If you are building software, your potential users are scrolling their feed right now. The platform rewards people who share real work, not polished marketing.

You do not need a big following to get traction. A post showing real progress on a real project can reach thousands of people through reposts and the algorithm.

What to Post

Build in Public Updates

Share what you are working on. Screenshots, short videos, before-and-after comparisons. People like watching things get built.

Good examples:

  • "Added dark mode to my habit tracker today. Here is how it looks."
  • "Went from 0 to 100 users this week. Here is what I did."
  • "This bug took me 4 hours to find. It was a missing comma."

Opinions About Your Space

Have a take on the tools, trends, or practices in your niche. Not hot takes for engagement. Genuine opinions backed by your experience.

Useful Tips

Share something small that helped you. A code snippet, a design pattern, a marketing trick. Useful posts get saved and shared.

What Not to Post

  • Generic motivational quotes
  • "Day 47 of building my startup" with no substance
  • Threads that are just repackaged blog posts
  • Asking for followers or engagement

Consistency Matters More Than Virality

Post 3 to 5 times per week. Reply to other builders in your space. It compounds over time. Most successful builder accounts grew slowly for months before anything took off.

Turning Followers into Users

Add your app link to your bio. Mention it naturally when relevant. When you share a feature update, include a link. Do not pitch in every post, but make it easy for interested people to find your product.
